Now Hiring Employment Development Specialist!

NEW POSITION: EMPLOYMENT DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The EDS will support a new transitional jobs program for Charlestown residents with barriers to employment. This position will establish solid relationships with local employers to increase access to job opportunities for residents who are looking for employment and to ensure that the Transitional Jobs Program goals are met. The EDS will work closely with participants and staff to identify job openings that match clients’ skills and interests.

Job Responsibilities include:
-Effectively develop and maintain relationships with local employers leading to a network of strong employer partnerships
-Match job-ready participants with employers, follow up and track all participants in the program, confirm and monitor placements
-Conduct assessments of participants’ interests, skills, and barriers to sustainable employment
-Assist participants with pre-employment basics and communication with potential employers
-Effectively market job seekers with a broad range of skills to employers, solicit appropriate job openings
-Recruit employers to job fairs and other activities to benefit clients and market opportunities
-Maintain accurate computer and paper records on all contacts and placements and submit timely reports
-Provide instruction to participants, solicit and refer to opportunities for professional development, including classroom, one-on-one instruction and workshops for participants
-Be prepared to work some evenings and occasional weekend hours as required
-Perform other duties as assigned.

Full time 40 hours week position with benefits funded until end of June 2009, salary commensurate with education and experience

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Experience working with employers and with adults to define and meet their employment goals
-Ability to market program services to participants and employers
- Familiarity with current workforce needs and issues
- experience working with high risk populations, experience with conducting and documenting individual assessments
-Familiarity with current tools and strategies for job search
-Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing
-Have a demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Experience leading workshops/ groups/ one on one trainings
-Computer literacy: word processing and database software; e-mail and internet required
- Must have ability to travel throughout Charlestown and surrounding areas, Mass Drivers License and reliable vehicle a plus

Experience and/or Education:
-Bachelor’s degree and 3 years experience in workforce development, social services, or related field

CSAC Awarded as Drug Free Community Support Program

The Charlestown Substance Abuse Coalition has been named a Drug Free Community Support Program – and a recipient of a national grant from the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The Charlestown Substance Abuse Coalition (CSAC) is one of only 107 communities nationwide to receive the five-year federal grant this year. The goal of the Drug Free Support Programs and local coalitions is to work with community leaders and others at the local level to prevent and reduce drug, alcohol, and tobacco abuse among youth. As a result of the award, CSAC is pleased to announce two grant funded job opportunities, a full-time Assistant Coordinator and part-time Information Coordinator.
